FUNCTIONAL SAFETY ENGINEER | LIBERTY, NC | $95–$100/HOUR
Location: Liberty, NC
Employment: Contract Opportunity
Pay: $95–$100/hour

WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Audit Safety Control Systems (SCS) for compliance with ISO 13849 and ANSI B11 standards
• Identify and document non-conformities within Safety Control System designs
• Design and verify countermeasures to achieve target control categories and performance levels
• Develop project schedules with defined deliverables, milestones, concerns, and key performance indicators
• Manage third-party consultants based on established milestones, concerns, deliverables, and KPIs
• Lead cross-functional communication and collaboration to drive issue resolution
• Provide written and verbal project status reports to management and key stakeholders
• Audit SCS design modifications to verify alignment with intended designs
• Support the Control Reliability team through mentorship and technical coaching
• Perform hands-on troubleshooting and implementation as needed
• Work collaboratively across engineering and technical teams to support project and safety objectives
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Functional Safety Certification required , such as TÜV Functional Safety Engineer or equivalent
• Certification credentials must be included with resume
• 5+ years of functional safety engineering experience within industrial or automation environments
• Technical associate degree or higher in a related discipline
• In-depth knowledge of ISO 13849-1, ANSI B11, and other applicable functional safety standards
• Demonstrated technical problem-solving and countermeasure implementation experience
• Safety PLC programming experience, including the ability to read, interpret, modify, and configure logic
• Experience with PLC/SPLC communication protocols and system integration
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional engineering and technical teams
SCHEDULE & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Availability to support weekends, off-shifts, and holidays as required
• Ability to work during scheduled July and December shutdown periods
• Ability to navigate large industrial facilities, including extended standing and walking, climbing stairs, bending, and kneeling
• Ability to safely lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds
WHO WILL DO WELL IN THIS ROLE?
An experienced Functional Safety Engineer who can combine standards expertise with hands-on technical capability . We're looking for someone who understands ISO 13849 and ANSI B11, can identify gaps within Safety Control Systems, develop effective countermeasures, work directly with safety PLCs, and lead technical issues through resolution.
